The title should say 1972 – but I may not have successfully edited it to show in the thread list correctly!
Ahhhh Chivenor ….. no modern day event can come even near to replicating the atmosphere of the huge line ups and massed launches of Hunters down in Devon. I thought some of my shots taken at a press day and subsequent open day might evoke happy memories. I’ve chosen a selection that includes a few since placed into preservation.

Line up headed by XE627 now preserved at Duxford

XF382 now with MAM at Baginton

XK141 sold I believe to Chile

Ready for the mass launch which I witnessed literally from the runway edge!
Regards
Tim

What can I say Tim – Fantastic! 😀 😎
36 Hunters in the sky together, who says you die and go to heaven? Sounds to me like heaven was a place on Earth.

I curse the day the Cold War ended.
I wasn’t too wild about the Nuclear annahilation stuff, but look what we lost!

I was there too and here is my contribution to that fantastic event. When the Hunters took off, they all formed up and flew past in ‘229’ formation – yes that’s 36 Hunters there if you care to count them!

Fantastic shots and memories of the days when we still had a semblance of an Air Force rather than a Farce……
