Hi folks, can anyone help with images of XL578 in service as in the new year we will have it in such state as it will be ready to paint!!!! We are also open to any good suggestions for colour schemes.
It has been a long and steady job getting the aeroplane back on its wheels and although a bit of a heinz 57 its starting to look a bit like a hunter at long last, we have the tailplane ready to fit over xmass and just really need to find a nose cone and rudder to really make her look like something so any help would be great.
Im hoping to have it finshed in the summmer and displayed a little better so people who are interested can pull into the farm yard and see it but as with everything you never get time and money at once:)
Regards
Jon

Found one shot on my pc but I don’t have the copyright – hence the small version uploaded. I do have contact with the owner if required….

Miss D underwent some repairs including a wing replacement whilst based at Kemble after an incident departing another airfield some years back. For some time the same wing appeared at the back of Delta’s old hangar (the old Red Arrows one)…
That’s why the removed wing appears with the other ‘bitsa’ parts making an almost complete Hunter in that photo 😉
Also – Tail Code “87” was XL592 when at Brawdy – I have pics of it, and currently looking for any of XL578?:)

Great to hear another Hunter has been saved! One question though. I googled the serial and found this:

Anyone know what’s with the wing from Miss Demeanour? I thought that one was still flying?
Taken from your link…………..Please note she has a wing from another hunter which has been sprayed in the cls like G-PSST

Good luck with the restoration – there can never be too many Hunters!
We’re busy repairing and restoring F.1 WT660 at the moment, and I must say it’s very absorbing to research and uncover her original colour scheme, markings and stencils – great fun! She should be ready for a repaint next year.

It was last Thursday, possibly a paint test panel or replacement wing?

This is what I’ve found out about your jet.
Its first flight took place on 27/05/58 and David Lockspeiser was the pilot.
The aircraft went on to serve with 229 OCU at RAF Chivenor from 15/07/58and took up the code ES89 with 234 (R )Squadron. It then joined 1st TWU in November 76 before going to St Athan but no date.
If you’re thinking of repainting this jet, then 234 (R) Squadron markings are very good. If you look in the book Hawker Hunter fifty golden years, and go to page 28 you’ll see a photo of Hunter F-6A XF516 then you will get a better idea of what 234 Squadron markings look like.
Hope this helps?
