Hunters at brunty

This thread wil hopefully get updated as and when I and a few others have done work on GA11 WT806 and T7 XX467

Firstly “806” which is closest to ground running

we are just waiting for LP HP cocks prior to ignition circuit testing and fitting of a 100 series avon which we have, this is having some components cx’d prior to fit also

both generators are overhauled tested and fitted onto the gearbox assy (hopefully with quill drives in now)

the second photo shows the missing hp and lp teleflex the fouth the fact that they are not fitted, which if we can’t find any will have to be robbed to service from 467 (just like the RAF) however we’d like to avoid this as we are making working for ourselves

both DC and AC power have been fired up and the hydraulics are being worked through with the hand pump initially to check for leaks and there have been a couple (i didn’t know old jets need nipples in their unions)

That’s really nice. I went past the one on the pole at Ford a few weeks ago. The photos above make me realise how faded it has become.

It looks blue in the light due to Ben belben excellent first full sized modelling job, I believe the extra dark sea grey has a blue component in it’s makeup at base level

The RN blue and white colour scheme is far more attractive on the Hunter than the more common RAF camo IMO.

Ive asked the guys currently working on it and await a response. They seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place as when they find a ball valve that does seal it is so stiff that it prevents the teleflex from operating it

Do you have the part number or section ref off of the valve at all and I will run it through our database.

Is it worth chatting to museums with statics? Maybe they might let you swap a dodgy one for a good un?

After a new one of these, after many attempts we are struggling to find a ball valve (upper half) that doesn’t leak and actually isn’t seized solid…..any leads appreciated, the item illustrated was fitted upsidedown to assist with getting the teleflex runs freed up. Apperently a common problem on inactive hunters.

Hunter progress Oct 2014

WT 806 taxied for the first time last weekend, however it shut down sortly after due to a lack of fuel, it remains to have further brake bleeding and ongoing generator issues. To this end the generator control panel is being taken out and overhauled (it having not been out since arrival) we believe under advice that the fault lies on this board.

ongoing work is also continuing on XX467

HP teleflex is now removed from WT806 after 18 months of trying, however end fitting at transportation joint has sheared off cable therefore we need a new one (anyone) with a new one installed it’ll just needs cockpit panel rebuild and engine/ radio bay setting up and then !!!!

Some progress

with seven people working on 806 last weekend, there’s been progress. The port wing wiring loom is nearly there about 4 pins left to re crimp, the radio system is complete and working, although the ARC 52 has been sent back to bolton as the cooling fan wasn’t running. The gun pack was removed again to have a go at teleflex again (no joy yet) and the airbrake jack was swopped with the one on the T-bird and refitted on the sunday after swopping hydraulic manifolds (they were a different MOd standard) the exisiting one had leaking gland seals, this one should be getting re-sealed hopefully to act as a working spare

Incidently the T-bird is up for sale i beleive as there are some key components still missing for ground running

gun pack

the gunpack is now off to enable access to the teleflex control runs, the LP cable is now i’ve been told free with the HP being worked on next. this and a few bits on the engine being all that’s holding up progress

shes inside now with the split commencing last week, the engine rebuild is 90% complete but the teleflex issue remains, ideally we could do with an RVA intrascope on loan to locate and try and realign the guide tube

the left aileron on wt806 had it’s end cap removed and replaced with one salvaged from a spare aileron, as the pivot bolts have seized into their bearings on the existing one and because it still operates correctly this was deemed easier than sawing through the bolts which we don’t have spares for

the patch i nthe intake came off to reveal that it was in fact a MOD strengthening plate and there is not access there oh…..one of many words said. time for a re think !!!!!

hopefully undercover soon fingers crossed so we can split the fuselage

does anyone know what and pictures of the component fitted between the HP and LP levers in the cockpit on the left hand side in a GA11 fit

What radio fit do you have? If you have TR1985/TR1986 then it’ll be a pair of Type 382 controllers in a mounting tray that fit between the HP & LP c0cks, with a cover plate over that has a paxolin ‘gromet’ where the relight switch cable runs into the shelf. If it’s an ARC52, then I’m not 100% sure how that mounts, but I’ll wager its an ARI18064 VHF fit. I have a cover plate….

In my F.4 there is also the wing pylon stores control to select and jettison bombs/rp’s/tanks….. see the attached photo.

also pictures of the HUD installation in an F4 or an AP extract

Thanks in advance
MPW

What photo’s of the GGS do you want? It’s a standard Mk5 GGS on a retractable platform in the F.4
