Hurricane Control Column Questions

Hi,

I’m working on the restoration of a CCF-made Hurricane control column and I have a couple of questions.
First, I’m looking for the dimensions of the inserts (see pictures below) that insert between the spade grip and the hinged joint head, part no. A73013. The assembly drawing I believe is A73014. I know that I can estimate the dimensions but I’d like to be 100% accurate.

The column itself is not complete so I’d like to know the length of the control column, just the tube itself.

Many thanks,

Ron Taylor

Pleased to be of help. It seems that most Hawker A.Standard copies in circulation come from the same source; therefore they are all missing the same sheets.
You might try Patrick Chriswick at:
http://www.hawkerhind.com
He might know of other sources for missing A. Standards.

Many thanks to Windhover and Rocketeer. The A. Std. drawings were a big help. Made the ferrules this afternoon on my lathe.

Do either of you gentlemen or anybody have A Stds 355- 360, 502-517, 564-567, 753-757, 771-820.

These are all rolled sections.
Thanks,
Ed

Hawker A.STD 1001 specifies Protective Treatment. Class 1A.
(It’s missing from my copy as well!)

These are brilliant. Both are missing from my version of the Hawker Standards. Haven’t been able to find a complete version yet. My copy is even missing 1001, which seem to be the most common on a Hurricane. It stops at about A. STD. 1340.

Thank you for these. They are a great help.

Cheers,

Ron

The inserts are correctly known as ferrules.
Hawker A Standards give two types; those for bolts, and those for tubular rivets.
The Bolt ferrules are listed in A.STD 532; and the tubular rivet ferrules are listed in A.STD 165.
Both are reproduced below…

The inserts are the same as the ones used in some of the joints. I have complete CCF stick so should be able to help with tube length….at least the visible section. Have not forgotten about your other queries just stupidly busy.
