Yes they built I’s also – I meant that the Canadian built Mk.IIB was in effect re-numbered XII later on in production. The Hangar 11 machine for example is a CCF built IIB.

The CCF produced machines were originally known as IIB’s but later production was re-numbered.

The Shuttleworth Collection’s Z7015 was originally built as a Mk.I by CCF before conversion to a Sea Hurricane Mk.Ib.

I thought that the Canadian Hurricanes were the higher Mk numbers like XII not a IIB

the whole fleet? As in…

I said “a veritable fleet”, not “the whole fleet”. Two Sea Furies, a Ryan STM, a Kreider-Reisner KR-31, a Laird LC-RW300 Speedwing, a Rearwin Speedster, a Stinson, plus probably a few others I’ve forgotten, all gathered up from various parts of the world and all I believe heading for the same collection as the Hurricane.

re;

If you are referring to the New Zealand example, it was sold recently (along with a veritable fleet of other airworthy warbirds and vintage types) to a new owner in France.

Hurricane for sale

This needs a ‘Robin Hood’ approach to acquire the required funds.
Who are we going to steal the money from,and can we claim it was in the National interest.

re;

and considering an absolute beauty like the former AFC example was available for ages, well if somebody wanted or could afford a Hurricane, they would have bought it.

Which is nuts when you think about it. If I had few million lying around, a Hurri would be near the top of my shopping list.

That is a knock down price for a zero houred Hurricane! Even for a Mk X11 type. I presume that the price is for a completed aircraft, test flown and with a Permit. The Hurricane is a far more labour intensive aircraft to build than a Spitfire however they dont have such a widespread appeal and so often struggle to sell.

No, the people who these aircraft sell to are not feeling the pinch like you or I. Good aircraft are still selling for good money. Aircraft are still being restored, to order, so yes, sales are very much ongoing.

If you can find a way of reducing restoration costs, you will be doing well indeed; the days of pumping the tyres up and a lick of paint are long over, and many restorations are starting with very little. The days of £50 control grips and undercarriage indicators are long in the past, and wont be back!

If I had the money, I’d be looking very seriously at that Hurricane. I dont, so its a moot point, but its looking like good value to me.

Yes Bruce you have a point but how many Hurricanes and Spitfires for that matter (yes I know Spits again)do you know that have been up for sale recently and are in fact still up for sale that have not found buyers that we know of ?? I can think of a few

As someone says a sign of the times perhaps ?,the money not being about ?. overseas bank accounts not being so good for your money ?.(couldn’t resist the latter sorry if you have a Greek bank account).

Are we likely to see the prices come down significantly the market must surely find a level a lot lower than it is now the same as has been said in other threads the costs of parts and spares will have to come down for folks to want to buy these aircraft.Its no good paying top dollar for an aircraft then finding that you are being crippled by operating costs ie; spares,hangar age,and the dreaded insurance .I think owner/operators are getting a lot more carefull and cautious with their money but the sellers havent caught up with that yet !!

For a newly restored Hurricane, with a fresh ticket, that is an absolute steal. Trust me.

VAT – why would you own it within a UK based company, or as an individual?

Yes and plus vat at 20% so you are looking at 1.5 million is that a good price or not I dont know some have been advertised for more some for less. I have seen this aircraft close up and personal having been down there to collect an engine last year and it looks a very nice and thorough job is being done on it.

I wonder who has that sort of money to spend, given the present economic climate ?
I hope it finds a good home.

That’s a bit off.

I was just about to buy one of their 10% shares.
