Hurricane G-CBOE sold to Germany

The flyer and the project airframe , previously for sale on Platinum website, have been sold to KARL-FRIEDEMANN GRIMMINGER of Munich in December.

Hope we get to see them again (DX ?) . The warbird scene in Germany is really flourishing.

Phoenix Aero Engineering at Thruxton are ‘winding up’ following the disposals.

Cant remember when I last saw several Hurricanes fly, both BBMF examples did at the 50th in 2007, I think Biggin Hill 2000 would be when I last saw a big number of Hurricanes? never understood why R4118 is always static at Waddington 🙁

G-HURR / 5589 was bought from the insurance company on the express condition that under NO circumstances could it become the basis of a restoration. The identity no longer exists. In the event NONE of it was fit for use as spares and all has been scrapped apart from the crankcase of the Merlin which was sold to be turned into a coffee table. That sale covered the transport costs of bringing the wreck to Thruxton. Phil did have two 40 Ft containers of further parts which have been sold to the new owners. Don’t forget 5385/G-RLEF which was also utilised for spares, the rest was donated to a static project in the UK.

They did the trip ! Clive Davidson flew it.

As for the remains, most of the bits I saw would fit in the boot of your average car (though not all together )

Sorry I should have said the 2nd one – plan was to permenantly base it in Finland – sort of makes sense why It had the temporary finish markings now

Anything is rebuildable if it has enough money thrown at it!

There was also a shipping container with the mortal remain of the Hurricane lost at Shoreham some years ago.

.

Was there much left of that airframe ,is it rebuildable to fly again?

Phillip flew CBOE on just one occasion- read into that what you will.

So much for the plan to take it to Finland then.

That’s the one Huw – they certainly aren’t going to be able to store it in the BHHH – it’s amazing they fit them all in!

”following the sale of the flying Hurricane and Hurricane project to Germany Phoenix Aero will be ‘shutting up shop’ in the near future.” Facebook page of company

This photo is the project airframe, which has been going to be restored as a two seater ( yes!) but that is no longer certain.

Interesting! Wonder what the winding up of Phoenix means for the Hurricane under restoration, I presumed that they would have completed it before it went to the new owner.

I’m sure Phillip lawtons hurri is in the late stages but still some work to do.

Unless hawker restorations will take up the mantle once the mk1 has flown, would be the most logical place??

Would be great to have that silver beauty at Biggin – perhaps the new German owner is in with the other historics at Biggin??? The name escapes me?? The guys with the fox moth etc??

Believe its moved to Biggin Hill but was back at Thruxton yesterday
“Plus the sale could finance another one” probably not by Phoenix – the hangar at Thruxton is being stripped out for another user

I must say the silver colour scheme does look really good and an interesting change from the camo schemes.
