Hi guys,
Im looking for some assistance please to find out more info about a midair collision on 27/8/41, over Lybster, Caithness.
The incident in question involved two Hurricane mk2’s from 331sqdn (Norwegian), Z5145 (FN-D), and Z5266 (FN-K)
Both pilots were safe, and Z5145 was a Cat E writeoff, but Z5266 was a Cat B and repaired.
I had heard rumours of a Hurricane crash in the Lybster area before, but this is the first info I have gleaned about it.
Can anyone shed a little light on this matter for me please?
Thanks,
Barry:)

The pilot of Z5145 was Jens Muller. The pilot of Z5266 was Leif Lundsten.
They were flying from RAF Castletown, looking after the best interests of the home fleet in Scapa Flow.
I was told about this years ago by a guy that lives in Lybster. He did not know where/if there was a crash scene to visit of Z5145 though. It may well have hit the sea, because Lybster is a fishing village.
