Hurricane Part Identification Help

Below are a few pictures of some parts from Hurricane 5467 that I was hoping someone could positively identify for me. Also any pictures of these parts in an actual Hurricane would fantastic.

The first two pictures are of the same part which I was told is from the machine gun air supply. The third picture I have been told is a cockpit shift plate. I cannot find a good picture of these parts in any of the manuals nor do I have any drawings to help me verify if these parts are indeed what I have been told. The part numbers I can find on the MG parts are AH2217 and A99621. The shift plate has part number P30382-1. Any information or pictures showing these parts is greatly appreciated.

Hi there, could you beleive I dug out the air charging connection fitting last year on an Hurricane crash site here in Quebec, Canada. It turned-out to be a very difficult task to find what the hell it was… Basicaly they used that air valve for ground purpose air supply for any use, like firing the guns…

Strange enough, last year I dug out exactly the damn same plate ( P30382-1 ) on an Hurricane crash site here in Quebec, Canada. My guess is it comes from the top outside skinning of the plane. Mine still bear some dark green paint

Looking at the AP again – specifically this was the attachment to trigger a G42 gun camera, an extension to the gun firing ‘circuit’. I’ll try to dig out a photo.

Below is some more information about what happened to 5467.

She was involved in an accident that took place on the 30th of August, 1943 at 15:30 hours GMT.

It was a mid-air collision involving to Canadian-built Hawker Hurricanes of No. 1 RCAF) O.T.U. at Bagotville, Quebec. The accident occurred at Lake St. Germain, 8 miles east of St. Fulgence, Quebec.

Hawker Hurricane Mk. XII s/n 5467 was being flown by 152894 P/O G. L. Mansfield

Hawker Huricane Mk. XIIA s/n BW847 was being flown by 152901 P/O I. C. B. Kenyon

The pair had been practicing formation flying prior to the accident. They collided in mid-air during unauthorized tail chasing at low altitude. Hurricane BW498 crashed near the shores of Lake St. Germain while Hurricane 5467 crashed and sank in the lake.

🙂 Of course, what I don’t get is WHY the spinners were left off in most cases over there.

Ah, a common myth, Bruce! (and one that I believed until very recently) See, for example, http://ascalecanadian.blogspot.com/2007/10/rcaf-hawker-hurricanes-part-1.html

The other part looks like a Spinner fairing piece, but if its a Canadian aircraft, it wouldnt have had a spinner….

Hi 69

What you have is part of the firing mechanism – please see the attached, from the AP.

Cheers,
