Hello Chaps,
Could you please help me to identify (serial number) this Hawker Hurricane?
Is from No 257 Squadron and the pilot is Gerald ‘Stapme’ Stapleton, also if you have a picture of this great and brave pilot during the Battle of Britain, I hope you can share with me.
Thanks in advance.

Stapme’s Hurrie
I have a first-hand copy of this photo from the album of fellow-257 Sqn pilot Cedric Henman. The serial of the Hurricane is Z2966.

Tried looking at it blown up but the numbers just get blurred.
It seems like Z2866, not sure if there is another letter before the Z.
The number looks as though it slants upwards distorting the numbers slightly.
I have not got any Hurricane serial number books to look up.
Good luck.
Brian.

Can’t make out the serial but the photo was taken at High Ercall in Shropshire in 1942

Serial Number
Hello Chaps, thank you so much for your answer but my question is:
Do you know the serial number of that Hawker Hurricane?
Thank you very much!

This photo is published in the BBMF’s 2007 brochure in which “Stapme” has written the forward, so in answer to the question yes it is “Stapme”

I’ve changed the thread title, just in case anyone thought Stapme was in the daisy bed. 🙂
