Always prepared to be proved wrong, but I have trawled through Peter Vacher’s book this morning, and have found no indication that R4118 had any contact with RAF Desford. It was repaired several times: rebuilt at Austin, Longbridge (1940); in 1941 by Taylorcraft at Rearsby (the other side of Leicester from Desford, so a possible cause of confusion); on-site at 44MU (Edzell, Scotland), early 1942; David Rosenfield in Manchester (1943).

In a recent CAA consultation document, Mr Vacher hinted that the Hurricane might have to be sold, because of proposed changes.

He is a fan of wartime de Havilland twins. I have said too much already…….:rolleyes:

I am not talking Rapides either.

I hope it doesn’t go abroad as well, this a/c almost more than any other privately owned one in the UK.

I always hoped that this would be one the a/c that might get donated to BBMF. Perhaps a combined industry/private donation bid assembled to donate to BBMF could be mustered.

Sadly, as it’s a Hurricane and not a Spit, I won’t hold my breath…..

re:

Nothing to stop a millionare buying it and donating her like they did with the Sea Fury (RNHF) and Wildcat (Shuttleworth) we can hope 🙂

Thats 3 now – the newly built MK XII and the HAC example on the market, with the AFC example and AE977 sold a few years ago.

Is the Merlin III still an RAFM loan item on the Hurricane?

Mr. Vacher does have a Leopard Moth under restoration at present, which is taking longer than expected.

At £3,000,000 inc VAT it’s a bit pricey.

Agreed re the BBMF- the provenance of a genuine BoB Hurricane (however new build a lot of it may actually be) flying alongside P7350 would be amazing. Can’t see it happening though…

re;

TFC…are you listening?!

Ideal one for BBMF. With a MK XII for sale at half the price I cant see her shifting soon… unless the new owner has to have a MK1
