During 1940, and certainly throughout the Battle of Britain, many Hawker Hurricanes were fitted with a bulbous Rotol spinner that was actually intended for the Spitfire. My query is are there any of these spinners still in existence?. I personally would love to see a Hurricane fitted with said spinner. I`m sure R4118 `s profile would look amazing with one covering the propeller.

I don’t know whether later hub/blades would prove suitable for the earlier spinner, but they might. Blades, at least.
Whilst on the subject, I’m not sure that the current warbirds spinners are the same as the wartime “bullet” Rotol spinner, for they sometimes seem a little more bulbous. Can any one confirm this, either way?

For originality, you would also need a set of appropriate propeller blades.
Very true Graham.

Yes its a shame that there appears to be no original Bulbous Rotol spinners left to make copies from. I think the large spinner complements the Hurricanes shape. I know it was a stop gap fitting at the time until the correct spinner, specifically designed by Rotol for the Hawker fighter became available, but i would have thought that for originality, a restoration or two might have had one replicated.

Unless someone happens to know a few crash sites that might yield something, I don’t believe any authentic Rotol RX units survive.

I don’t know if it’s the same type of prop/spinner as fitted to Hurricanes, but the FAAM’s Fairey Fulmar certainly has a prop/spinner that looks the part. Perhaps copies could be made from that?
