Hurricane Z2507 – ex Russia

Wreckage of a Hurricane recovered some while ago from Russia has been recently examined and the number Z2507 emerged painted on the inside of the spinner.

It was a former 601 Sqn machine that went to Russia 8 Sept 1941, but is anything else known?

And the data plate says А Б В Г Д Е Ж Ѕ Z З

If it’s from Russia, was the paint dry ?

Have double checked and am assured it is Z2507.

I suspect there is little paint on what is left of the spinner, but will ask.

Hurricane

Andy,

Fair enough.

Z5207 went new to 81 Sqn.

Assume it is Z2507 which was 601Sqn?

Is the spinner black or white? Seems Z25XX had black spinners? and Z5207 had white spinners?

Also Z5207 and Z5227 of 78IAP flew into a hill in fog so could be classed as high impact (on a slope).

Interesting.

No, not confused.

I am assured definitely the hub and spinner from Z2507. From Russia.

I see there was a 2507 and a 5207 in Russia.

I will double check and get photograph. Either way, if it is from Z5207 then I know where the hub and spinner are!

Hurricane

Andy

Getting confused?

Z5207 is Ex 81 Sqn, 151 Wing and being restored down at Thruxton.

‘Z5252’ was brought from Safanov Museum but found to be another identity. Z5053 of 402Sqn.

The real Z5252 was recovered and is still in storage in Moscow. Was gifted to Russia to restore but seems to be not too much interest. Even though a Hurricane Z5252 is more historic to Russia than us – flown by Kuznetsov and Safanov.

OK, take your point…however, and notwithstanding any question mark that may exist over Z5252, the number has been found on this particular spinner (now in the UK) and which was impacted hard into the propeller hub of a high-speed impact wreck. Since the spinner is in place on the ‘possible’ wreck of Z5252 then it cannot be this one!

Errr….no!

That was not Z2507 but Z5252

It might be as the Russians realized a bit later that the identity is not certain.
