Husband buys Concorde nose cone without telling his wife

It is one of the most recognisable parts of an iconic passenger plane which last flew almost eight years ago. But a private collector has bought a unique tribute to the British Airways Concorde, after purchasing its nose cone as a decoration for his home.

The buyer paid £100,000 for the plane’s ‘droop nose’ – lowered during take-off and landing to help the pilot’s view. The collector also chose to remain anonymous – perhaps a wise decision as it emerged he has yet to tell his wife about the unusual decoration.

Diamond ones with bracelet to match and a long round the world cruise so he can break the news gently.

Why buy her anything. Just say “You know where the door is Sweetheart”. :diablo:

There’s every chance that he’s now already blown the cash, so she could be right outta luck!!!:diablo:

That said, how many people here have told their other halves about aviation purchases up front? :diablo:

Jon

😮 But they always find out eventually. She calls it ‘the cr@p in the shed’… i prefer the correct term ‘valuable historic artifacts’ ;).

Concorde Nose

Well it IS the Mail.

True, but all concerned can be reassured that none of the surviving Concordes are lacking their noses!

Slight O/T – or perhaps not: whatever happened to the half-sized replica Concorde that stood at the roundabout near the entrance to LHR?

I know it was removed some years ago, so where is it now?

Glad to see the BA Museum getting some extra funds – it’s a fantastic museum and archive they have there, and the archive and the staff were great in helping me research my dissertation last year

Thanks – I missed that bit in the piece, having skimmed through it rather quickly.

Concorde Nose

And my next door neighbour in 1966/68 was one of the small engineering design team which developed that component! Do we know from which Concorde it came?

According to press reports, it did not come off any particular Concorde, it was a spare held at the British Aiways Engineering base at Heathrow. To quote from the Daily Mail report:

“He believes the nose cone, one of two spares that BA had owned, would be the last to come to market”

I saw the show it was sold on, they had two but needed to free some funds for the museum so sold this for the £55,000, the other dealers were amazed at what he bought it for, seem to remember the other offers were about 1/2 that? still it did look quite cool and probably cost a hell of a lot more to make…… shame the museum never got more, but that is the chance you take.

If the market dictates that the nose cone is worth that much, what for the whole airframe ?
