hush-kits

Do hushkits reduce the sound of the engine?

The BAC 1-11 is only stage II hush-kitted. A stage III kit was developed but only fitted to three aircraft before the program was discontinued. Stage III compliance is needed for many European destinations.

If the BAC1-11 has huskits on the newer versions, then why isn’t allowed to fly in Europe? Does this mean it would be even more noisier without the huskits?

Laterly, maybe, but not always… just checking my Skyflyers logbook, I flew BA5403 from Zurich to Glasgow (via BHX) in G-AXJK and back on BA5406 on G-AWYU at Christmas 1990, and I can assure you they were both BA Aircraft.

In fact, that flight on 5403 from ZRH to BHX is still my only cockpit visit. 🙁

I also looked the registration up recentlyish, and the aircraft had previously belonged to B-Cal.

I guess that UPS , DHL and FedEX use some of them.
Am i correct?

Yes they do, in fact FedEx invented them. AA, DL, and UA 727’s also used FedEX hushkits prior to being retired. In fact, UA was basically trading in their DC-10-10’s to FedEX in exchange for 2 sets of hush-kits per Douglas.

Exactly what I remembered. Belgians like to codeshare, 1/10th or so of the flights of snba isn’t opêrated by themselves!

Sabena never had BAC111s of their own, but did lease some around 1993 from British World. This was done as there where delays in the delivery of the BAe146s. Again in 1994 some more 111s where leased but this time from European Aviation.

I had noticed that G-registration leading me to believe that the photograph might not be real. All the G-A*** BAC1-11s belonged to EAL. Btw T5, I have written two reviews for web-wings.co.uk on Air Scandic!! Nice site as well. Over the next few days, I will be writing flight reviews fo WW and ZB.

Forgive my for sounding dim, but that aircraft has a G-registration, indicating to me that it’s British?

It’s a BAC 1-11! Surprises me that you don’t know it!
It seems that this aircraft is really owned by Sabena if it’s takenat Glasgow.

Yes it is, thanks for taking a Sabena plane. It’s not flown by Sabena tough, I think it’s something African. I didn’t knew this one was painted up un Sabena colors.
