hypothetical U.S. Home Defense Air Force

In another thread Mr. Illeduets made the following remark:

“You’re quite right, Vortex. With the Cuban threat diminishing, the USA could go ahead with the good example, abolish their Carrier Battle groups, cancel F-22 and F-35 and procur a couple of Golden Eagles to cover home defence.”

I fancy speculating about a minimalistic U.S. Home Defense Force, just suited to defend CONUS and that handful of outlying islands. Some wacko democrat wins the election, the US leaves global defense to the UN and the armed forces get reduced to say 1930’s scales. What could such an (air) force look like?

# a Fighter Interceptor Group for each of the big population & industrial centres on the coast line and two for the interior plus reserves with detachments to the islands = 12 groups á 36 jets = about 450 jets (e.g. single seat Hornets or F-35)
# two N/AW fighterbomber groups per coast plus one in reserve with detachments to the islands = about 200 jets (e.g. double seater Hornets or F-35)
# one UAV or airship AEW wing with detachments on both coasts, some crafts in the interior and a few to the islands
# one tanker wing with detachments on both coasts = about 50 K-767
# a number of Coast Guard SAR flights along the coastline and on the islands = about 80 EH101
# two intra-theatre transport groups with C-130

# three dozen PAC-2 and -3 regiments all over the country
# one dozen armored regiments and three dozen “Yaeger” infantry regiments – these belong to the National Guards

# and Tom Ridge gets one million agents additionally for stalking Arabs!

= all the other stuff (MBTs, ICBMs, SSBNs) is handed to Coffee Anan and his folks. Would fall into disarray within month anyway, what a brilliant idea for real disarmament!
= no U.S. troops in Europe (is taken over by the Fench), Korea (taken over by China), Asia (taken over by China), Japan (the return of the Samurai – starring Tom Cruise), etc – just good old fashioned home defense. Costs less than USD50bil p.A. I guess
