If we (the forum) could organize our own airshow, where should we have it ,what should it contain and in what order should it run?

Hey Philo guess what you forgot:
T-6 in RAF colours
DH mosquito
Blenheim
P61
YAK 9
Beaufighter
Scimitar
though where we’d find airworthy examples of most of them I’ve no idea

Ahhh, imagine a world without hypothetical situations…
Anywhere, really, but featuring all those display pilots that have gone on ahead, flying the aircraft that are also no longer with us.
Otherwise something that is now very rare – it is really great to have 3-4 of one type at a display but you can have too much of a good thing – or very exotic or extinct. I have always wondered what kind of displays the Westland Whirlwind (fixed wing, not rotary) or the DH Hornet would have given, or experienced one of those airfield attacks from the 1950s that I was always being told about by those who were old enough to be there!

How about this from the pages of ‘The Aeroplane Spotter’ 28/6/45
The royal observer corps stand down airshow at North Weald 24/6/45
Flying were
4 squadrons of Mosquitos escorted by six squadrons of Mustang III and IV’s at 2000ft. Coming back in sections at 50ft!
Next a Meteor aerobatic display.
Then a Stirling para dropping.
A halifax towing a Hamilcar.
Then 3 Czech squadrons of Spitfires.
A Dak towing a Horsa.
Then 6 meteors in formation aerobatics.
The finale was a Sikorsky R4.
Static
Mosquoto BXVI,Lancaster III,Fortress III
Halifax III,Walrus Liberator GRIV,
Wellington GR XIV ,Beaufighter TF X,Dakota III,
York I,Mosquito NF,Stirling IV,Mustand III,Spitfire LF XVI,Tempest V,Typhoon I,P47D,Hellcat I,Firefly F1,Avenger II,JU88G,FW190,Sunderland III,Catalina,Auster,Oxford.
I think thats a good start. For us spotters also a massive scrap yard like those that held 1000+ Halifaxes etc.
Plenty of more shows like that in the pages of the ‘spotter(I have 90% of the post war issues.).

I’m also easily satisfied;)
Any airfield where they have loads of concrete (well they’ll need that if they’re gaing to put the entire RAF Lightning force of 1965 on it) and where the sun is behind the spectators…maybe Fairford.
1965 is crucial since that was the year the Lightnings were really colorful.
At 10.00 the main event begins: all the Lightnings take off after one another. Don’t worry if you miss one: they’ll do it again at 15.00
For the quiet moments there’s plenty around in 1965…USAF with natural metal finish B-47’s and a B-58 and Century figthers…RAF V-Bombers.
Let’s not take all these off the alert status, so a full squadron scramble of both a Victor squadron and a Vulcan squadron will suffice.
1965 is also ideal for an appearance by the “Acro Deltas” the Swedish Vidden display team.
And appart from some of the remarkable RAF trasports like the Argosy, let’s invite the Transall Prototypes.
I told you I was easily satisfied.

Well, I’m a simple soul so;
RAF Pembrey with loads of Hunters!

Have to agree with Philo, its bloody hot but I also will play but mine is more simple.
Site – Scampton
Aircraft – Multiple Lancasters
It’ll never happen but the heat does things to the mind.
More ice nurse……

For the date, I would say the 15th September, or another significant date from the Battle of Britain – the actual date if pos or the nearest weekend if not.
For location, I would say a suitable airfield with a Battle of Britain connection. North Weald would be good.
For aircraft, anything connected with the battle, & don’t foget Coastal & Bomber Commands, the trainers, ATA etc. Also a CASA ‘Heinkel’ would be great. Why has no-one over here operated one?
By: DazDaMan - 6th August 2003 at 12:56
Woah, good one dude!
I’d like to have something along the lines of a very big finale, something akin to Flying Legends, but instead of just a big flypast, something with a bit more flair and spectacle. The most impressive thing I ever saw was at the Museum of Flight, East Fortune, Airshow in 1998 – Spitfire IX MH434 and Hispano Buchon G-BOML dogfighting. Like that – but BIGGER!!!!! 🙂
Why not make it at North Weald?
