HZ251 Memorial

Hi all,

Don’t normally linger around these parts of the forum, however yesterday I happened to be passing at the opening of the new memorial commemorating the crash of RAF Wellington Mark.XI HZ251 with the loss of all her Polish crew on a training mission near Skipton, North Yorks (bridge 183 on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal). The reason for the crash was the failure of the main spar causing the detatchment of the Port wing and engine.

Although we missed the flypast as we weren’t that far down the canal at the time, i’ve attached a couple of pics of the memorial if it’s of interest to anyone – the quality however isn’t great, especially on the the overview which had reflections on the plastic, however it gives anyone who wants it an idea of whats there.

A nice looking memorial, I always find the time to reflect whenever I see these. We really must not forget the sacrifices that have been made in the past and even now with the current conflicts.

I’ll make time to see that memorial when I get the cahnce to visit the area.

Richard
