I know they're only R/C, but…

…some of these little “parkfly” warbirds are just lovely!

Makes me wish I hadn’t give up on R/C… 🙁

My Observation

“Ok, the RC antenna is visible and there is one enormous mistake (see if you can spot it)”

The prop swings the opposite way to the real thing!

That’s the one. I have a feeling there’s a flying video of it, too.

More stuff on flying model Spits….

http://www.rcgroups.com/links/index.php?id=4126

Daz, I’m pretty sure this is the kit that produced your ‘mystery spitfire’ thread a while back. It is really worth watching the video to see it close up. It is about the same size as the GWS spitfire (and would take the same micro r/c gear), just with better surface finish etc..

However the basic airframe will cost four times as much 😮 , as they say, you pays yer money you take yer choice….

I remember way back seeing an RC Spit XII and it was right on the money in terms of the look. If you’d have photographed it like the one above you couldn’t have said for sure if it was the real deal or not.

OF course I found this site after I posted first. Spit XII, IX and Hurricane. The XII leaves a bit to be desired but the others look really nice

FenTiger, have you found the A10 underpowered?

Yep, It is very underpowered with the EDF 50 units fitted. You have some serious dilemmas when operating this model. You could use bigger fans, motors and batteries but this increases the weight and the model after all is only made from foam construction so the increased weight might break it whilst doing A10 syle manouvers. If you increase the battery power and capacity you run the risk of burning out the motors after 20 or so flights.

I have no landing gear on mine and it runs with the stock motors and fans on 8x 750mAh Nicads and get about 3 minutes at full power. The model will roll and loop if put into a dive.

I prefer the Zero truth be known….

I too thought the GWS models looked excellent so bought the Zero about a year ago and have the Mustang (in the colours of Janie) and the EDF A10

They fly quite well but are not for beginners. I fitted retracts, rudder, aileron and elevator controls in the Zero but on the A10 it is just Aileron and Elevator.

I have also a Balsacraft Hurricane and Blenhiem, a 71″ wingspan electric Lancaster and a Mosquito.

Of course the only limitation with these types of models is time and in the case of the Lanc, a suitable surface to fly it off…

I will try to add some pictures later

I would of thought it counted as a relevant ‘fringe’ activity like flight sims, which itself merits its own space on the site (I might be wrong but Key don’t directly publish flight sim magazines  )

I would have thought it would solve the problem of posting modelling threads here that almost, but dont quite, seem to fit in.

Any comments 🙂

There’s a poll on a modelling forum in the General forum – I think the webbie IS up for it, so long as there is enough support.

While we are on the subject, this is kind of getting back to a recent request for a modelling section. After all, it is the same sort of thing as flight sims..

(with the bonus of fresh air and daylight 😮 , and the downside of no ‘reset flight’ button when things go wrong 🙁 )

..a ‘sub forum’ type of thing could be of interest to Historic, Commercial or Millitary ‘forumites’ and could cover things like plastic kits, corgi models as well as flying stuff.

I was away on holiday last time this cropped up, but I would be all for it 🙂
(It would save the obligitary apologetic ‘Its only R/c etc… 😉 )

Yeah I’ve seen it – don’t go much on the colour scheme, either. Reminds me of the Jamara ARTF job that used to be around a few years ago. Silver and green “camo”??

I saw a couple of reviews of the Balsacraft Spit IX, and really fancied giving one a go had I not stopped my R/C musings… 🙁

One version I saw had been done up as MH434 in her ‘civvies’ – what a beaut! 🙂

Are these IC/electric ones? I’ve never seen them, but would be interested in a look-see! 🙂

Will, you should be a salesman for GWS – I’m just about convinced I should buy one for strafing runs down the park…!! 😀

I think you’re right. The only thing that gives it away is a slightly enlarged fin (though not as strange as the GWS fin looks) -I do wonder how long a slender four blade prop would last after all of those belly landings (flying styro wheels are just for show, so the model can look nice on your desk between flights), I break enough two blade ones myself!

Isn’t that the little Mk9 with the four-blade prop (the same one I posted a “Mystery Spitfire” posting on a while back??)

More expensive than GWS is the ‘Flying Styro’ range of similarly sized electric models. They have excellent surface finish, it looks more like you are flying a well build airfix kit! (Oh yes, they make a very nice mark 9 Spitfire!)
