Help.
I need a picture of a BIG battleship.
Ideally it would be a head-on shot with a decent bow wave
If it was in colour it would be a bonus
If it was HMS Vanguard the world would be my oyster.
Any leads?

NHC
Lots of public domain photos are available at the NHC site.

The emphasis is American, naturally, but other nations are well represented. Several Vanguard pix are there. You can decide for yourself if the quality is sufficient for your needs.
I think my favorite BB photo is this one, Tennessee after her monstrously expensive rebuild:

Too freakin cool…to be able to operate with an Iowa class battleship….absolutely fantastic…I got to wander NJ’s decks and tour her last summer in Camden, NJ on a tour..it was a blast…but to be able to see her at sea, doing what she does best…musta been awesome…

And earlier in the day, as we passed from the Bering Sea to the Gulf of Alaska through a pass between two of the Aleutian Islands:

Here are a couple of shots I took in Nov. 1986 from the flight deck of the USS Ranger CV-61 just south of the Aleutian Islands of the BB-62 New Jersey:
I also have some without the guns firing, including one with the CV-64 Constellation crossing her wake.
I give you permission to use them if they are suitable.
Jon Alexander, former SGT., USMCThe originals are 3″ x 5″ prints, but I do have the negatives….
Wow. Stunning pictures! 😮
Feel free to post more of the same happening!

Terran, no… my name is in the text of the post, Bager is just a board-name.
I should start paying more attention to what I read… lol
Bager is Danish for “baker”.

No, ~3/4 Scot, a touch Irish (yes, I am “touched”), a little Dutch (very little), & 1/32 whatever else snuck in!
EMGY… those fins are from an F-14A of VF-2 (Navy Fighter Squadron) [Bounty Hunters].
And I agree about the names, although Forrestal CV-59 was named for Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal 😉

That’s usable in lieu of a full head-on shot.
I’d prefer it in higher resolution though.
Any ideas?

Does the Royal Navy have a historic images dept?
I tried the RN site for Vanguard and couldn’t find owt,

Love that first pic, thank you for showing them. You see the fins of a naval aircraft parked on a carrier in the foreground while the old queen of the seas blasts off a lovely plume.
(Stop naming your carriers after old puckered men! Midway, Forrestal, Coral Sea, good names. Iowa is a good name as well. How are you going to say “Oh that Ronald Reagan, what a beauty she is”?)

Wow, nice pictures! 🙂
By the way, is Bager your last name? Danish?

Yup, any old battlewagon will do. It’s just for a rough visual for an ad.
If it goes ahead we may need to commission an illustration, as then it will have to be Vanguard
