🙂 We have just been to our local beefeater /travellers inn and were told the burgers were off the menu as they couldn’t be 100% sure of the lack of horsemeat. Apparently people were more put out by the lack of burgers than the possibility of them being made of horse meat.

Horse or not, as long as I still get my OATS, I’m not all that bothered either way.;)

He’s not pushing for it to be given to the poor

He is saying it’s wrong it should just be thrown away and perhaps it could be offered to the poor.

In some media it’s being made to look like he’s saying “Here eat this” when all he is saying is “I’m going to have to throw this away…unless you’d like to have it.””

Bloody good idea, after all it’s not a safety issue, simply a labelling one. I can understand companies not being happy though as a donated free meal is one less sale. But when you think of those starving the world over, there are a lot of countries could benefit, not just in Europe. I believe a few priests have added their weight to the campaign, for what it’s worth Horse is leaner than beef so better for you….

If the stuff was correctly labelled and priced I would bet that it could be sold anyway, the problem in all this is one of unknown ingredients getting into the food chain, with finances tight many people would lose their problems with horse meat at the right price and properly documented.

Personally although not a devotee of processed ready meals have no particular objection to eating horse, provided saddles are removed first of course.
