Spain is suffering a dissapointing development in its airlines. After a quite creative and fantastic period, when many airlines started operations, now we are losing all of them. It seems that aviation is a risky business. Few suvirvors are in risk. Air Europa, about to be eaten by Iberia. Spanair within Lufthansa. Futura about to close down, Air Plus with a lot of problems as well. Iberia is again dominating the market…and it will. Iberia creates big praises and big hates, I would like to hear comments about the airline from non-spanish and impartial people.

So does anyone else have any info on Iberia, Air Nostrum or places (and airports) to go and see in the San Sebastian/Irun area?

I’m sure of this! A bit warmer than Germany has been this winter too. It’s about 3 degrees here in Mannheim today. I can’t wait to get to the warmth and sunshine π

I don’t know how to surf but I guess I’ll be in the right place to learn! I have plenty of information about Irun from the girl who’s currently working there but any more info on things to do and places to visit (and of course any good airports!) in the area is always welcome.

Irun is 25km away from here.
Irun is located right on the French Border. You walk on the bridge and you’re in France in a lovely place called “Hendaye”.
Well don’t forget your surf board , since this place is the temple of surfing in Europe.

I’m actually going to be living and working in IrΓΊn. I hope to spend lots of time in SS though as I have heard loads about it. I’m also looking forward to seeing the sea again as I have been in Germany for the last 6 months. I was brought up by the sea and so miss it a lot when I’m nowhere near it.

Thanks Hand I’m sure I will. To be honest I also wanted to try out a new airline & a couple of new airports (as well as fly on a 757!) so they were also factors in my decision π . That said, if the price had been horrendous, I would have flown FR (or EZY in to Bilbao)

Well , in order to answer your question, i flew IB on both domestic flights and international. They are “middle of the road”
Not terrific , not terrible.
I never had any bad experience with them.
Maybe Keltic will be able to tell more.
Have fun !

Why don’t you fly Ryanair from STN to BIQ (Biarritz).San sebastian is 30 km away from BIQ , you’ll fly non-stop and you will certainly pay less!!
An other point : EAS is 22 km away from BIQ !!!
I got a really good fare with Iberia and am going to be living about 5 minutes away from EAS. I did look at all the options but as I’m going for 6 months I need more than the 15KG luggage allowance that I’d get with Ryanair. Thanks for the tip though, I will quite probably use that to go home for a weekend during my time abroad.

IB uses the A343 into UIO… Economy class is a 2-4-2 layout…but as usual, Iberia seats leave a lot to be desired. Also, you might want to take a book with you or something, because there is no chance of private IFE unless u fly in Business or First…
I have flown with IB several times, and although their European product was reasonably good (not great, but better than decent), their Intercontinental product can range from passable to terrible.
My last trips with them were GVA-MAD-EZE-MAD-GVA.
the GVA-MAD-GVA legs were ok (except for the fact that in the MAD-GVA leg, they changed our gate 4 times AFTER the scheduled departure time…and THEN bussed us out to the maintenance area…hence we were about 2 hours late into GVA).
Also, their “ergonomic seats” are….well…. let me put it this way: they make “ergonomic” synonymous with “torture” :p no, seriously speaking, the seats were very uncomfortable, especially on a 13 hour flight… other than that, just watch out when landing back at MAD on the A340…they tend to bounce them off the ground a few times before they decide that it’s time to settle them down:D

Jaenske YOU ARE SO RUDE! π
If we can’t ask each other on a friendly forum then that’s just silly! Be a bit more friendly, please.

then pretend like you book it on iberia.com! they say the type too!

Once again amadeus does NOT tell you the information required, just that it is run with an A340, not a specific type.

IB operates both A340-200/300 series and A340-600.
I could find which of those they operate on this route.
However all of them are in a 2-4-2 seat layout.

A340?
I was wondering if anyone coulkd tell the series of A340 them fly??
And do all these a/c have 2-4-2 seat configuration?

I have flown with Iberia – between Tenerife and El Aiiun in what was then Spanish Sahara (now Western Sahara, a disputed territory). I was four years old at the time and we flew via Las Palmas on a DC-9.
