Iberia/Air India cooperation

Despite flights, some years ago, to Bombay and Tokyo, Iberia has always turned its back to Asia. It seems that things are changing, and has signed an agreement with Air India, offering a joint fare to New Delhi from Spain and conecting in european destination to where the indian airline flies of only 700€. Was that you Kabir?. Was it for your influences:-) In any case what surprises me most of not having done that with BA, as members of Oneworld. Odd isn´t it?.

Air India to acquire eight more aircraft

NEW DELHI, June 26 (AFP) – India’s state carrier Air India is to acquire eight more aircraft to connect with cities in the United States by December this year, a reports said Wednesday.

The eight aircraft include two Boeing 747-400s and six Airbus-310s, Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain told the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency.

The process of leasing the aircraft, without crews, had already begun, the minister said without mentioning the cost of the acquisition.

The new aircraft will help Air India connect the southern Indian cities of Cochin, Madras and Bangalore with New York and Chicago besides Paris, via London, PTI reported.

Air India was leasing the aircraft with the hope of getting day or evening landing slots at London’s Heathrow airport, Hussain said.

Air India at present has a fleet of 23 aircraft.

The airline also planned to come up with a “new image” in December when the new routes were scheduled for launch, Hussain said.

Sam.

I think Iberia didnt even approach BA…they went solo with AI and must have taken this agreement mainly for there interest.

BA really helps out members in its own alliance, don’t they(said very sarcastically)? What’s the point of even being in an alliance then? I somehow think that Star members don’t experience this.

RE: Iberia/Air India cooperation

well if Air India will listen to me…maybe they wont be in such a state :9. They have 28 aircraft for over a billion people…what a joke! Anyway, i think its a good decision from Iberias side. Although they will have a tough time with AI(like virgin is doing), otherwise its good. Going with BA…..that wont be good, so what if they are members of the same alliance, BA still wont provide services to them as AI can(politically and in other issues).
