Ice Pilots' Arnie Schreder dies

http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/story/2012/05/07/north-arnie-schreder-dies.html?cmp=rss

If anybody has seen the documentary on TV, this guy and his family earn their corn flying C-47’s, DC-6, C-46 (IIRC) around, and he flew the DC-6 on the “Dambuster” recreation attempt.

It’s worth watching just to see the aircraft, let alone the conditions that they fly in.

it’s a sad loss.

Arnie ferried two Canadair CL-215’s generally known as ‘Scoopers’ to Turkey via the Azores.

Yes, I agree, my mistake, as stated to Bob, I got the progs mixed up.I just put it down to a “Senior moment”, and if you believe that……………………:diablo:

Newforest, didn’t he also take a couple of water dropping P.B.Ys over the Atlantic, or is that what you mean, (I couldn’t remember their correct names)

Sorry, missed your post. PBY’s are Catalinas and not involved in the programme! Arnie ferried two Canadair CL-215’s generally known as ‘Scoopers’ to Turkey via the Azores.

BSG_75. I was an avid fan of Ice Pilots and Arnie ran a very tight ship, but even if it meant a late delivery to a customer, safety always came first.
I wonder if the useless son will take over.
Sad, very sad. I for one will miss him.

You’re getting the cast all muxed ip – Arnie was the Chief Pilot – Buffalo Airways is owned by Joe McBryan and he has the “useless” son (Mikey)…

Sad news. He was the chief pilot responsible for ferrying the two Canadairs to Turkey. 🙁
