Hi All,
TO23,
Thanks for the link :eagerness: I don’t understand why they down graded the alert back to Orange when the report said:-
1. Earthquake activity in NW-Vatnajökull is still very strong, 700 earthquakes have been observed since midnight and they are somewhat larger than previous days.
2. The dyke under Dyngjujökull is now estimated to be approximately 30 km long.
3. There are no indications that the activity is slowing down, and therefore an eruption can not be excluded.
Unless it was because they thought it was erupting yesterday and have found that it never was plus that the main area of quakes has moved North and are lower in intensity lessening from above 5 to 4.2 as it states on their webpage.

Iceland has lowered the warning level to aviation from a volcano in Iceland from “red” to “orange”, its second-highest level.
However, authorities said there was “no indications that [seismic] activity is slowing down” and added “an eruption cannot be excluded”.
Isn’t orange still a little sort of reddish…?

Hi All,
On the news I saw they were describing it as erupting under the volcano and as of yet there has been no melt off from the cap on top!

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn’t there a huge overeaction four years ago at the time of the last Icelandic volcanic eruption?
There certainly was. I got fed up with hearing about the BA 747 incident, from “experts” on the TV news bulletins.

Rather have a knee jerk reaction and nothing fall out of the sky except volcanic dust, than the remote opportunity of one or more airliners suddenly converted into gliders with nowhere suitable to land and people complaining that no one took the situation seriously…
I mean, did anyone complain that shutting down all air activity was a knee jerk reaction in 2001?

Stand by for a knee jerk reaction from the CAA.

Was debating whether to put this on the Canadian Lancaster visit thread on Historic…just in case.
