ID on Bomber Nav Seat Please

Hi, Attached are some pics of a Navigators seat that I am trying to identify. People have suggested it is from a Lancaster? Anyone out there recognise it? Any help/suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

Look like different supports, and back shape to me. If that is the serial, it would be right for Shack MR.2.

It’s not Shack Nav seat, look at pics in my link.

I have done pagen01 and I see the same seat but with padding and leather covers on!

Hi, So Shack it is then, any idea what mark of Shack it would have been fitted to?

Thanks

Dan

Assuming WL78? is the a/c serial then likely an MR2.

Hi Cees,

Thanks for this, at least I will be able to say what it isn’t from! I will have a closer look to see if I can spot any part numbers. The tag label has a 1951printers mark or issue mark but the hand writing has faded beyond reading.

Cheers

Not Halifax, the seat back looks to be designed for a seat
type parachute pack

Not Shackleton Nav seat, at least not Mk.2-3 (inc. WL series), look at pics on this post http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=80495&highlight=shackleton+wl795.
It does look similar to Shack front gunners seat, but why the Nav script.

I was wondering Beverley or something of that ilk.

Ah!!

Having just rotated the second picture and assuming it is the a/c registration it is rather obvious – WL78? which would make it Shackleton. So that reduces id to 5 possibles – WL785 – 789. Do you know any history of the item?

Unfortunately the writing on the service tag has faded. Could it be Halifax? Or even a Shackleton Nav seat?

Must be something on that service tag I can see behind the canvas PSP/chute type pack.

Not a Lancaster seat as there were two nav type seats fitted, One was a bench type seat the other was a similar to this but it mounted not on the floor but to a hinged framework whic allowed it to swivel into position. Are there any part numbers on it?
