The following description is of an object found in my home town following an air raid, would anyone know what it is.
39 1/2 ” long x 8″ diameter with letters “U.M.G. & EISSILD 9/1940″ in green paint, also detonating cap 8” diameter x 522(? not sure about this) long marked “E.J.Z.” and small letter “T.Z. (9) R.8.S. 1939”

Some of the publications on the RAF in Germany carry the one of the RAF Phantoms as I said earlier it was a well used publicity photo.

Oh yes, very real and IIRC still in use as a family residence as is Schloss Marienberg.

Thanks, I’ve been wondering if it was a real place after seeing it in this painting.

Schloss Marianburg i think, South of Hannover in the BAOR sector, quite a famous landmark during the cold war.
Schloss Marianberg is far enough South of Hanover to be WSW of Hildesheim. I’m Not sure but I think it may be Hohenzollern as I don’t think Scloss Marienberg is quite that big, even though I’ve flown past it and done a circuit of it at the level of the top floor windows:D Having had another look it is definitely not Marienberg. I am almost certain that it is Hohenzollern as this is a quite well known RAF publicity shot.

Sounds very much like a parachute flare. Is it painted black and does it have any fins?
