Found lurking in a corner in the East Essex Aviation Museum are the following three unknown parts. No history known. Can anyone identify them please?
The two items in the first three photos are probably from the same source, made from steel (except a fragment of aluminium casting on one end), and maybe Gloster made. Undercarriage parts?
Embossed letters/numbers comprising two letters (either SG or SC) and three numbers abound:
On the angled piece:
SG443 and a J in an H in a circle (see third photo)
SG375 and SOF (maybe 5OF) in a circle together with (stamped) Y82129 A
Y81398 1 (or I)
On the straight piece:
SG411
SG410
Stamped 14?284 6 OP (maybe 140284 6 UP) together with inspection stamp G5449 (but the G could be a C)
Photos 4 and 5 are of an aluminium cylinder, probably containing a steel core. On the four sides of the squared part are:
COMP ASSEM 109-334040 followed by a T over 19 in a circle. (The ‘4s’ look to be of a continental style.)
99-33431 (possibly a NATO number?)
ASSEM 99-33404
Inspection stamp? ANA C26 in a circle.

Many thanks Hampden Project, Whitley_Project and Anon for solving both sources. The Mustang item could be a missing ‘mislaid’ piece from ‘Little Zippie’ – need to check. So, the inspection stamp is a Gloster ‘G5’, it isn’t very clear on the item. Pity those parts have no history, but at least they now have a type identity.
PM sent Rocketeer.

First two (or three) look like the remains of a main u/c downlock mechanism from a Meteor.

It’s the 99 and 109 prefix – these are P-51

99-33404 is the parking brake compensator unit, it fits in between the brake master cylinders which are above and behind the rudder pedals on a P51 Mustang

Whitley_Project, I forgot to ask what makes the cylinder ‘Mustang’? As you can probably guess I’m not familiar with the Mustang numbering system. Any ideas on its function or location in the aircraft?
No takers for the potential Gloster parts unfortunately. I thought they would be the easier ones to identify, but not so.

That was quick Whitley_Project, many thanks.
One down two to go.

Hi Foray
Your cylinder in 4 and 5 is from a Mustang
