Got to see a private collection ‘somewhere in England’ last weekend. This barn is the b collection. The good stuff is in the house but I didn’t get that far. Quite an eye opener. In amongst the farm detritus was a large part of V2 motor resting on top of an old freezer.

Bits i/d
Could be an R-2800 crasher in the right foreground and possibly a P-38 Lightning turbo-blower in front of the framed canopy.

Von Braun would have been so proud…

Good call on the Hotspur canopy, I assumed it was Meteor so looked no further. It clearly isn’t. The dinghy is not fully original as it lacks the early 40’s air inside. Practically a fake.

The tyre was labelled Lancaster so full points. Didn’t get to see what the leg was off unfortunately.

Canopy far right corner looks interesting. Hotspur glider perhaps ?

If it was in China I’d be thinking Stirling bits.

Spot on Mark! Lincoln and Anson according to the little labels. Small is the image size rather than the actual barn. And Andy, you’ll need bigger locks.

Well, the big tyre screams Lancaster to me, and I reckon the turret glazing at left could be one of those Martin turrets (as per Douglas A-20, N.A. B-25 etc?)
However, I could be wrong, and I can’t begin to help on the mashed-up radial engine bits (?), I’m afraid. No doubt one of our forum wizards well be able to help further.
So what WAS in the Big Barn? Pleeease let it have been a crated (zero-houred) Westland Whirlwind or a Whitley….:p

bits in barn
Hi all, looks like an undercarrage leg in centre just behind orange box.

Looks like an Avro Anson rudder right over in the back corner against the wall, and perhaps a upper turret cupola for the (edit) “Bristol B.17” turret from an Avro Lincoln to the left of centre?

Looks like a one-man RAF “K” type dinghy in the background….??
This must be Xtangomike’s limitless repository!! 😀
I like the idea of a V2 motor on top of the freezer. The lid on ours often pops up. Now I know what I need to keep it closed!

I think the heavily framed canopy is from a B-45 Tornado bomber as we have one on display in the Bentwaters Cold War Museum and it looks the same.

Hmm, my courgettes do need a cloche!
That must be a seriously sized bit of kit?
By: ian_ - 31st March 2025 at 15:25
You’re completely right there Pagan! He’s not really into jets so there could be a chance of removing it if there was a very good home. He let me have a JP stick top and I felt smug as until Gareth picked up a 43 dated rim wound clock.

Now that is unusual, the guy knows what pretty much everything is, hence the labels, but god knows where he got that from.
That’s what I was wondering!

Not quite, compare with Hotspur pics, I’m dead excited though because I think it is B-45 Tornado!
They have 16 panes in the main part of canopy with two panes in rear part, which the above seems to have – if correct what a find!
