Identity of three bladed Propeller

In 1987 I was in Tunisia with my young family and found a propeller lying on the dockside in Sousse, presumably brought ashore by a fishing boat.

Anyone have a stab at an ID for it??

Many thanks

Like most of this sort of stuff it will probably have gone for scrap.

Shame really as due to the robustness of the parts they clean up really well and make nice exhibits.

Thanks to all who commented. One thing seems certain and that is that it is German in origin. Its great to have some idea about this relic after such a long time. I wonder what happened to it????

Looks like it ditched with the prop(s) windmilling.

Having perused my copy of Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of WW2, the DB603 (Me 109?) seems to fit the bill as regards the extended prop shaft and reduction gear way back behind the front support bearing.

Edit: DB603 used in Do217N & M, Do335, He219, Me 410 and Ta152. (info from Wikipedia).

Whilst the hub itself, the blades and the boss where the blades sit in the hub look right for a VDM hub, are we sure that it is??

Something doesn’t look quite right with the collar and castellated nut at the front of the hub, or the length of the shaft to the reduction gear if this is Ju88 / Jumo211.

Definitely off a German engine. It’s a late type, probably DB605 or Jumo 211. Merlin Pete will know the type.

They had a lot of cross-fitting of engines in WW2 Jerry types. For example the Ju88 had in-line’s (Jumo’s) and radials (BMW801’s). He 111 had DB601’s to start and went up to the bigger Jumo 211’s. Fw190’s had 801’s and ended up with Jumo 211’s in the Dora, so it will be difficult to pin a particular aircraft type down from a prop.
