Next thurday, three IDF/AF F-15s are scheduled to overfly the Auschwitz-Birkenau Death Camp in southern Poland, while an IDF delegation conducts a ceremony below. This means that some time during the next week several IDF/AF fighters and at least one support aircraft are going to make their way north from Israel to Poland, passing over several European nations on the way. I would greatly appreciate any posts on the subject, from the route taken and hosting air bases, to anything local medias have to say on the subject. Needless to say, photos and links are especially welcome, no matter the language (got Russian/Polish/German speakers in the family).
This visit by IDF/AF aircraft to Poland is apparently a part of some international event due to take place in the near future, and the Auschwitz overflights were initiated only after the visit was confirmed. Does anyone have a clue what this event is supposed to be? It’s got to be pretty big if they’re sending Israeli fighters halfway across Europe, reportedly at an invitation from the Poles …
Preparations for the ceremony are meanwhile taking place in Israel, these photos are from the IDF website.
