cheers flex, you know your stuff. You were right about the Kos flight and to be honest the sunset seemed pretty fast.

If a flight is going MAN-TFS departing 18:50 on 29th August when will i expect to see sunset on the route heading south.

Well with Tenerife and all the Canary Islands from Manchester they can go 1 of 3 ways. The common route is via Exeter, Bay of Biscay, Northern Spain, etc. or they can avoid France, Spain and largely Portugal by flying on a “Tango” route, airways T16 etc, which are Oceanic airways. This takes you over Ireland and that way. Airlines (notably Monarch) use this route quite often now, mainly to avoid nav charges. I believe MYT also use this route from time to time. Or they can go via Birmingham, Southampton and join up the airway to the Bay of Biscay.

So it’s quite hard to predict which route you will be taking. I would say if your doing the common route expect to see sunset over the Bay of Biscay, if over the Oceanic route, expect to see sunset when leaving Ireland. And if they are doing the 3rd one, expect sunset over the Bay of Biscay again.

Hope that helped.

Sunset would be about 10 minutes after hitting French coast.

Sunset for that date is around 20.02 (varies depending where in UK you are, but it’s near enough), so just over an hour after leaving.
