If you turn your head on 4 angles…

2012 becomes ZION.
Give it another try Iran, we really don’t care if you don’t turn up to our Olympic Games.
This just shows the stupidity of fundamentalism, it seems to affect all parts of the functioning mind.

Which translates as adding to the trough for all those parasitic ‘piggies’, for a very long time to come! 🙁

Indeed – it emphasises the point I made earlier. Atlanta lost money as well. London will be no exception and despite protestations to the contrary by Coe and Johnson et al, Londoners, mainly, will be paying the bills for years. Yet another thing to thank Mr Blair for!!

I don’t think anybody has yet mentioned the financial difficulty other countries have got into while hosting the olympics. Even Canada, not a poor country by any means, was borrowing money for decades after the 1976 games.

I can’t see us doing any better.

It’ll end in tears.

I would say it is down to governments setting moronic targets and generations being bought up without respect. difficult to explain on a mobile phone.

Nashio, I can understand your objection, however I think even you might admit that our police are not held in the esteem they once were. There are many and varied reasons for this, which can be rehearsed in another thread, and whilst there will always be exceptions to every rule I think the relationship between police and public 30 or 40 years ago was hugely better than it now is.

making it harder for our fat police officers to catch them !!

well those that are still in a job anyway !!

I object to this, a considerable portion of my family are police or ex police, I work for TVP and they all work bloody hard, I have volunteered to work the Olympics myself 🙂 . Do me and everyone else a favour, keep your unfounded blanket trollings to yourself thanks.

The figures will always be “adjusted” to suit the argument but I don’t think any Olympics has ever generated direct income in excess of the costs to mount it and run it.
And that’s the problem. It is all about money and prestige anmd politics, whereas it should be about clean competition between individual athletes, not nations. That’s why I have no time for it.

1. The games will make money…………..for who?

2. The games will be a success……………possibly.

3. A chance for GB to show the world there is still some G in the GB….if you say so.

For negative vibes, read realism.

When the games are over, and after all the ‘organisers’ and hangars on have taken their token £10 each out of the pot, yeah right, it’ll be very interesting to see the arithmetic. When you strip away all the flags and the balloons, sadly, thats what it all come down to. Its all the ‘piggies at the trough’ behind the scenes that really wind me up. You’ll find them involved everywhere in enterprises like this, as well as in politics…Ooops, but maybe thats a topic for another thread on another day:diablo:

Cmon chaps, help me out here. Please don’t quote from posts directly above, there is no necessity to do it, and when it clogs up and slows the forums down you’ll be moaning to the webmaster 😉

And if you read the demands the IOC make on the host cities for the facilities for their members – hotels, cars, hospitality etc, to which Boris has to meakly accede, it would make you spit!
