Im pleased with myself

When I phoned up ‘GO-fly’ airlines I asked if they let people sit in the jump seat for take-off or landing. The answer, no. They said the only way you could get in the flight deck since Sept 11th was to either be a family member or to be an employee or ‘GO’. I asked if there was any way that they could get me up there and the answer was “it is impossible”. Then, the guy I had been talking to passed me on to their fleet manager, who spoke to me and said that I could get up there, but only if I had done work experience (im 15) for them, therefore making me a temporary employee and enabling me to go up! So now, I have 4 days work experience with ‘GO’ at London Stansted airport, and when I’m done they will put me on some flights in the jump seat, and whenever I want to do it too! YEA!! First time in the jump seat.

If the Devil broke his leg, and some airline allowed me to fly jumpseat, it would be such a bad experience, I’d probably hate them too.

You are so lucky!!!!!! I’ve been in a jump seat once, on a Boeing 747-400 of Air New Zealand flying from LHR-LAX, and it a superb experience.

RE: Im pleased with myself

1. – THEY HAVE TO BE BASED!!!! – otherwise insurance is a huge problem
2. – Preferably have their own handling services – e.g. bmi use their own at nm as opposed to servisair.
3. – Dont go looking for glamour – no airline is gonna put u on a flight a day – u’ve to hack the paperwork and oddjobs too – i didn’t mind this side – i did loadsheets, flight hours and allsorts. I was also lucky as in the company owner was my boss – therefore if he wanted to go flying he’d drag me along and the fact LBA closed and we got 3 diversions also helped!
4. U need good referances – school and a job will b best but also any organisations u’re in are gud – scouts etc
5. – Allow plenty of time – it took me over 6 months to get it all thru health and safety risk assesment etc (thats school covering their backs!)

RE: Im pleased with myself

I done my work experience two years ago and was hoping to be at Heathrow Airport and had it planned out about a year in advance.

No airlines would take me on as I live over 25 miles from the airport although I can get there by train in just 25 minutes!

I ended up working with ‘ntl:’ “Technology completely ruined”. It was dreadful and just not what I wanted to do. Working with complete halfwits as they attempted to fix already broken telephone lines, Digital boxes etc.

In no way is this post designed to intimidate or degrade ntl, you really are quite bearable.

If we’re taking friends I’d probably manage with a Cessna 152! And have room for hitchikers.

RE: Im pleased with myself

And so you should be. Well done Mark!

Just goes to show that the old saying is true ‘If you don’t ask you don’t get.’

Good luck with the work experience.

Now, does anyone know the phone number for Boeing? Perhaps they’d lend me a BBJ for a week?
