IMC Rating

Is it just me being paranoid or does anyone else think that the 4 year period for the UK to convince Euroland that it has its place as a safety enhancing rating will achieve nothing? Let’s face it most of the other countries in Europe are anti-British enough to reject it on principle purely because we thought of it and they didin’t.

That of course is very true. As with any rating it is essential to stay current, to do otherwise spells trouble which is why I said properly used. Not keeping in practice sufficiently to be able to say you are current is, in my mind, not proper usage.

As with all these nice ratings they are fine if you are using them, the thing with the IMC rating is that the training is relatively “short”, and once the rating is in the hand there is a tendency to keep it in the pocket, then when you want to use it you find you haven’t done any instrument flying for eons.
Without teaching you to suck eggs you already know that flying IFR in VMC is a different ballgame to flying IFR in IMC, and the simple sum of a lack of currency + IMC = a ruined day.
Then there’s that killer we all forget about – ice, ice, ice.

Stay current, and stay safe 😉

Exactly my thinking. It improves the pilot’s skill level and gives them a get out of trouble ticket if used properly.

IMC for me

Maybe but still worth doing for the increase in skills, airmanship and could get you ready for a baby euro IR which might replace it.
