Incident at Leuchars

Was anybody up at Leuchars last night ( Friday ) watching the arrivals ?? , one of the German Tornadoes landed after a panel blew off the fuselage during a practice display – just wondering if anybody had any further information.

So that is the secret weapon of the Luftwaffe’s Tornado fleet! Trying to cause FOD on the enemy! A true hit and miss affair, but if you can not afford anything better, it is better than nothing! 😀 😉 😀

The panel ‘popped’ off during a high-g pull-up – apparently the GR version is prone to this as it flexes slightly during violent manoeuvers! The panel had to be repaired by Luftwaffe personnel, so that’s why they couldn’t just pinch one off another jet. There may have been damage to the mountings as well.
