Found this 1982 Russian movie on Youtube, it is at times eye watering funny but it does have a significant amount of Soviet aviation and naval footage was rather interesting including:
Kiev class
Kamov-25
Yak-38 Forger
Tu-16 – A scene included of wingtip refueling and a hilarious crash at the end.
IL-38 May in American markings – presumably standing in for P-3 Orion
Various Russian ships and Submarine standing in for the USN.
The Russian interpretation of the Americans was hilarious including at least two actors in Black Face (I joke you not) to represent African American crewman. All the Americans appeared ready to have a breakdown whilst the steely Soviets saved the day, the US navy captain gunning down one of his crewman just came over comic rather then serious!
Anyhow have a look if you want a laugh and as I said there is some pretty good footage of Russian equipment in action:

That one can be translated as Solo Mission, the land-based cruise missile launch sequence was shot in Crimea, Balaklava base.
At least they’ve got the uniforms more or less right, when watching some of th Bond movies or Red Dawn or whatever, the only suitable description for Soviet uniforms was – OMFG! 😀 Arnie was great as a Russian cop as well 😀
Thanks for the info, I think I’m going to carry on finding these films as they are fantastic. Can’t help but compare them to 80’s movies like Rambo 2 and 3, actually it makes me wonder if they were in some form a response to those Western movies. All we need is a Soviet version of Top Gun and my week would be complete:D

Film starts with a Western naval exercise that is going on for some reason next to a Russian one, the first scene of the news crew on the bridge of an American carrier had me crying with laughter! You have crewman with open cans of beer in front of them on the bridge and the American Admiral is smoking a huge Cigar. Obviously the Russian studio didn’t know (and probably wouldn’t of cared) that the US Navy was dry on board! Albeit I don’t know about senior officers and smoking on the bridge?:D
Armageddon, Salt, Rambo II and heap other foolish film 😉

OK here is another one from the same studio, this time its about a brave group of Russian naval commandos saving the day again from those reckless Americans. Looks like the Americans get some missile tests wrong and its up to the Soviets to sort it out.

Film ends with a battle against American missile boats, enjoy:

That crash was amazing, being serious it stands up well as an action sequence in comparison to Hollywood action flicks of the time.
I also enjoyed trying to make out what the American dialogue was over the Russian dubbing – its a hoot! Sometimes they even dubbed the American and then dubbed over the top with Russian leading to a triple dubbing! Watch out for the random American swearing including some fantastically random “Sonofabitch”!

that was a good old fashioned crash near the end (tu16). no CGI just like the A team tv series. great how they managed to hit the only building there.

that was awsome find, many thanks:D Now we westeners can propably relate better how russians feel when presented as the “crooks” in our flicks…
the Il-38 as USN “Orion” was great, never thougth soviet side would do such things in their own productions.

Just corrected it.

This looks pretty awesome. I wish it had English subtitles.
And the bombers are actually Tu-16s, from what I saw, not M-4s.
