Incident on Air Canada flight ?

The BBC News are reporting a strange incident where a trans-atlantic Canadian flight has had to divert to Ireland as one of the Pilots appears to have had a “breakdown” and was removed from the aircraft in a distressed state. Has anyone heard any more or was it unreliably reported ?

 The first of a week of stories of high profile breakdowns:

Sean Young checks into alcohol rehab after creating a disturbance at a Hollywood awards ceremony…..Britney Spears escorted by police cars, motocycles, and a helicopter to the UCLA Medical Center after bizarre behavior…..Delta Burke checks into a clinic for treatment of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and hoarding that “ruined my life.”

And Paula Abdul blaming some of her recent troubles on the lingering effects of her abduction by space aliens.

I feel sorry for the chap, mental illness can strike anyone and sadly it is still considered taboo with the sufferers often being stigmatised. There once was a time when this poor fellow would have been considered ‘posessed’ or practising witchcraft.

I wonder what’s next for the unfortunate FO, back to the cockpit after rehabilitation.. ?

Probably not eh ?

The BBC story seems to have been recently updated:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7217977.stm

A passenger said the pilot was carried from the plane shouting and swearing, saying he wanted to talk “to God”.

Sounds like the poor bloke was in a bad way ๐Ÿ™

It would appear that RTE have the story

http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0129/shannon.html

That must have been a bit worrying for all parties.
