Increased defence budget as a response to the terrorist attacks?

Will the shrinking of the US defence budget that we’ve seen over the past few years be reversed now after the terrorist attacks? Already a large sum has been released for the fight against terrorism. What do you think should be done with that money?

Some potential options:

– increase the F-22 buy
– buy more F-15Es
– buy more B-2s
– increase the number of carriers
– re-open the F-14D production line (giving carriers long range assets for the future)
– buy more V-22s (for use by special forces)
– increase the US transport ability (ships and more C-17s)
– ……..
– ……..

Another question is: will we see an increased US defence budget for many years to come (meaning a permanently increased budget) or will it drop again to today’s levels after the initial shock is over? And what should the European Union do: also increase its defence budgets??

Any thoughts??

Best regards,

Ference.
