My response to the red ink was deleted as it contained some facts.
The power of the delete wins the debate again.

However, the car will be offered for sale in Europe as soon as the testing has completed.

I am eager to read your facts now.

However, this car is little more than a roller-skate with doors on.
To sell to USA or European markets it will need a lot of extra features, a LOT of testing including the crash tests.

According to the CIA World Factbook, the population of India was 1,129,866,154 in July 2007 and I doubt it has reduced in the meantime.

I would, therefore, suggest that the US and European markets are of limited relevance at best to the producers of this particular vehicle.

Life is dirt cheap, they leave it all to Allah.

What an insulting generalisation!

Apart from anything else, you’re clearly unaware that India is, in the main, a Hindu country and not an Islamic one. You do know there’s a difference, don’t you?

Please consult the Code of Conduct for this site before your next posting, in particular rule 5.

To sell to USA or European markets it will need a lot of extra features, a LOT of testing including the crash tests. By the time the sub-standard parts are replaced with safe ones, it will be approx. £5,000 and not the £1,250 as predicted in the press.
I’ve been to India, I’ve been on the roads in India. Life is dirt cheap, they leave it all to Allah. Treble overtaking on a blind bend FFS!
So, the loss of a family of 5 etc. is a normal expectation.
At least our taxi driver (For 3 weeks) was sensible and never put us in danger but some of the driving there is beyond belief.

We are not a developed nation yet, we have limited land area..and a bulging population. I am not saying this project should be stopped, i am just saying people should take adequate measures to realise that we will have a problem on our hands.

And we cannot under any circumstances make public transport free here.

I know this is not a very palatable thing to say, but we simply cannot just “un-invent” the motor vehicle. And with the relative success of the two most populous nations, China and India, this was inevitable. People aspire.

I believe that the only way to combat the downsides to this is to adopt the most pragmatic approach. Ever more money should be put into public transport, and cars have to be made smaller and cleaner.

The only really effective method may be to make public transport free.

As great an achievment for Tata this is, i am completely against this project.

There is no infrastructure what so ever to handle a sudden rise in vehicles on the road. Delhi alone has around 12 million vehicles and with this price tag we can say good morning to massive traffic jams.

Just yesterday it took me 2 hours to cover about 17 km from work till home… when everyone starts getting this we can say goodbye to driving all together. I know i will.

And the more congestion there is.. the more pollution there is
