Indian Airlines re-branded!

Indian Airlines to be called ‘Indian’ now

December 07, 2005

The government-owned Indian Airlines has acquired a new corporate identity and a new name as well.

It will now be called ”Indian.’ The word ‘Airlines’ has been dropped and will hopefully shed its somewhat stodgy image.

Passengers will be greeted by a transformed attitude which will reflect its new ethos.

As its mint-fresh leased Airbus A319 arrived from Hamburg today, IA changed its name, motif and colours to be more contemporary.

The standard livery will be altered next year to enhance the look and feel of aircraft interiors. And the uniforms too will be different.

The rebranding, arrival of new planes on lease and acquisition of 43 new aircraft are all timed for initial public offering of partial stock sale early next year.

“Indian is the backbone of Indian aviation and bracing up for increasing competition,” said Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. — UNI

(Above) Indian Airlines’ — now renamed Indian — new Airbus A-319 arrives at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Wednesday. IA plans to buy 43 aircraft, including A-319s, A-320s and A-321s from the European major Airbus Industries.

If only we can do away with those muscular aunties on board.. and better interiors.. better site..and a bit cheaper fares..

too big a wish list..

Agreedon the over-aged and scary air-hostesses,but if you want cheap fares try Deccan, Kingfisher, SpiceJet instead?

What about range, passenger no.s?

yes when he means size it means no. of passengers. A319 and A321 are of same mainframe design that of the A320. The A319 i a compressed version of the 320 while the 321 is the stretched.

A brief history behind the c/s development, the wheel or the ‘chakra’ as we call it is from the historical Konark Sun Temple in the Indian state of Orissa. Here is the picture of the Konark wheel from where the livery has been based on. The temple was built in the shape of a chariot with wheels and horses for the god Surya by King Narhasimha Deva in the 12th century.

and this is the full temple.

http://www.touristplacesinindia.com/konark/images/konark-surya-temple.jpg you can see the wheels all aroud it.

here is IC’s old livery as someone asked for it.

Sounds a bit like when British Airways became “British”.

Why was the Airline title removed? I hate it when airlines don’t use Air, Airways or Airline with their name.
