An Alliance Air(subsidary of Indian Airlines)flight took of yesterday night at 11 pm en route New Delhi from Bombay. After some time the pilot told the ATC of New Delhi that the plain has been hijacked. the authorities alerted all fire fighters and security personals and all reached and positioned near the airstrip. The PM woken up in the middle of the night. The plane lands and is positioned in a corner of the airport. The pilot has no idea and just follows the instructions. Finally he asked why has he been positioned in a corner….the ATC says that he only called for a hijacking emergency. And believe me the pilot didnt know what the ATC controller was talkin about. The Civil Aviation minister said this was a drill….they wanted to see how the airport authorities react to a situation like this. The Police Commisionar said he was not informed of anythin like this sort. This thing has me confused the whole day. I will update u as soon as more info. comes in.

RE: Indian Hijack Confusion!
It was confirmed a telephone call by someone to the ATC telling the flight will be hijacked. The ATC told the pilot which made him panic. He told the crew to monitor all the passengers. they shut off the front lavoratery. One person there was eager to goto the front lavoratery or speak to the pilot. And the crew said he was restless the whole flight. It was no drill…all PM and other ministers were woken up at 1 am and all rushed to the airport. But it was nice to see the Indian Commondos preventing the plane from taking off. They burst the tires…a barrier was made on the runway etc. The pilots locked the door also. It was all panic and confusion.

RE: Indian Hijack Confusion!
The original news report said that someone had telephoned saying that the plane had been taken over by hijackers.According to the news today it seems that everybody has a different story. One story says passangers say that the captain told them that they were having a hijack drill. Another says that the captain thought there was a hijack so he locked the cockpit door and assumed that the hijackers were in the passanger section. Another says that the passangers and cabin crew thought that the hijackers had locked themselves in the cockpit.
If the authorities had set up a hijack drill it seem to me that they picked a really bad time to do it as everybody is still so nervous after the 11th September
