from BBC News online
Four people have suffered serious burns after a Russian-built MiG-21 fighter jet crashed in a residential area in India.
The plane came down in the city of Ambala in the northern state of Haryana, injuring three women and a child.
This is the second Indian fighter plane to crash into a civilian area in the past four days.
The pilot of the aircraft is reported to have bailed out and landed safely.
Indian Air Force officials told the BBC the fighter jet crashed almost immediately after taking off from the Ambala Air Force Base shortly after midday local time.
Reports said the aircraft hit some houses close to a state government milk plant about 1.5 kilometres (one mile) from the Ambala Airbase.
District administration officials who rushed to the crash site to supervise rescue operations said no one appeared to have been killed.
A full search of the site was ordered.
Indian Air Force relief and rescue squads, which also reached the site of the crash within minutes of the accident, have begun trying to tackle a fire that broke out after the crash.
Last Friday, a MiG-23 jet crashed into some village houses in the neighbouring state of Punjab killing a total of five people and injuring several others.
