Indian Spitfire News ( I'll try again)

Unfortunately the Flight idea may not work. in the past the Tigermoth had been making cross country flights over 1600km legs to display down south from what i heard.. ofcourse they took the opportunity to stop at every AFS station along the way and then show off a local display where possible.. so i guess a ‘touring’ flight is a possibility.

It’s good to hear there is such enthusiasm within the IAF to create a significant memorial flight.
Logistically one would think it will be a far greater challenge than here in the uk given the size of India. Perhaps they will have detachments based in two or more locations?

Sadly I think the Tiger Moth needs restoration again judging by the last picture I saw of her in India!

David, which picture was that? All the recent pictures i have seen , that tigermoth appeared in good condition.. and flying as recently as October 1st (attached pic).. so wondering what picture it is that you saw..

And the Tempest, a type which unfortunately has something of a bad restoration track record. Hope it works out in the end.

Isn’t the Wapiti meant to be coming to the UK for rebuild ?, will be fantastic if she can do a season over here after the rebuild.

My understanding is that the Indian Air Force Historic Flight is ambitious in the medium to long term and will be modelled on the BBMF.

I would anticipate three airworthy Spitfires on the flight eventually….and some surprises.

So what’s happened to the Tiger Moth David? I spent some time with the two nominated Historic Flight pilots (both graduates of the Indian AF Test Pilots School) earlier this year, when they were over in the UK to undertake tailwheel training.

A Hindustan HT-2 has been mentioned.
