It’s not released in the UK until 22nd of this month, and yet the critics are at it already…some even going to the extreme length of calling it ‘…the Indiana movie that you were dreading.’
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1944027/Indiana-Jones-and-the-Shock-of-the-Savage-Reviews.html
But judging from this trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsGaB52hfjc) I think it looks just like a classic Indiana Jones film, what more could anyone ask for?
I dont care what any reviewer says about it, I will go and see it for myself and then pass judgement!
Anyone else planning on going to see it, or will it be a ‘I’ll wait until it comes out on DVD’ type film?

Sis Rhonda at 47 is a MAD Doc Who fan and Torchwood nutter, who is maddly in love with your David Tennet I think it is, Currert Doc Who anyway’s.
Can anyone tell me what Torchwood is? Have heard bits about it… like it is like Dr Who but for adults but no description about what it is about. I mean Dr Who is a time traveller who gets into lots of adventures with aliens trying to take over the world, which ever world they happen to be on at the time. I assume Torchwood isn’t about a central character that travels through time otherwise it would just be Dr Who.
Regarding Indiana Jones, I wasn’t greatly impressed by the first two movies which weren’t really to my taste. The third one I thought was better because I though Harrison Ford and Shaun Connery acted well together as father and son. (I got really sick of that chick in the second one always screaming out “Indie” real fast.)
I am a Harrison Ford fan however and enjoyed the older star wars movies. The newer star wars movies just kinda felt like they were going through the motions to complete the story… knowing you knew the end because you’d seen Star Wars and knew who lived and who died. Have read the book about the canteen (ie bar) on tatooine and think that three movies set after return of the jedi would be more interesting, but as the market seems to be for the 13 year olds of the world I guess it lacks promise.

Interesting to note that the Russians have replaced the Germans as the bad guys. I thought they may have given the Chinese or even our Arab friends this honour.
Spielberg and Co. wanted the enemies to be relevant to the passage of time since the last movie, so the Russkies were the obvious choice.
Cate Blanchett was pretty good at hamming it up as the psychic Russian agent, but she really didn’t have much to do in the film. My personal opinion is that the role of the head villain should have been played by someone a little less well-known – look how effective they were in the previous three films! And who can forget Ronald Lacey (as Toht) in “Raiders” – hardly on screen for more than fifteen minutes, but still such an iconic nasty!

Saw the movie today, and found it a bit underwhelming.
The storyline is really thin, just something to hang the action on.

I guess I would rate it as the least of the Indiana movies.

Seen it earlier this week, and I rate it as the fourth best out of the four Indy flicks. The dialogues were funny and in-style, it looked the part, but since I’m one of the people who hated ‘The Abyss’ for it’s ending, I can’t say Indy IV made me leave the theatre satisfied (except for the Hasseltse Koffie in the bar). While the first three films were skimming the border of over-the-top-far-fetched-scriptwriting, I think IJ&tKCS crossed that same border. Unfortunately.
Without giving away too much, it’s like the difference between well-established biblically-inspired Knights Templars-mythology and pompous Erich von Däniken-new-age crap.

Hey, I’m lucky in that respect then. My grandkids aren’t old enough to have an opinion about me but I guess they’ll think the same when they are. They’d better or I’ll have failed miserably.:D

If you say so. I’m not going to watch it again to find out if you’re right:)

Daz, you’re getting as bad as Steve. You’ll be telling us they’re good viewing next.
Now, see, for all their lameness, some of those movies are fun to watch! They’re in the “so bad they’re good” category. Jaws – The Revenge, as bad as it might be, has some redeeming qualities about it. So there! :p
By: DazDaMan - 29th May 2008 at 11:57
Daz,you thought you were a Jaws fan.Have a look at This Indy Fan.
Now that’s pretty cool. People might think otherwise, but I don’t because the guy doesn’t make it out to be a life-consuming passion, he just has a real love for the films and the character. There are nerds out there far, far, far bigger than that!!!
My Jaws collection seems tiny by comparison…

I must admit I agree to some degree on the “real” fake monster movies, rather than the CGI-created versions.
Yeah,me to.I much prefer the “in camera” efx in the first 3 Star Wars films. The computer adjusted versions took away some of the magic.
Jurassic Park 1 is also a classic for actual models in front of the camera.Who can forget the T-Rex attack on the 4×4’s and the close shots on Ripley when she confronts the Alien.Pure model magic!
The Granddaddy of them all,for me,is 2001.Everything you see on screen is REAL.It took me years to find out how the stewardess replaced the floating pen into Dr Floyd’s pocket.
But,CGI has it’s place.Without it,half of the films in the past few years would have been un-makeable.But,and a big but here,it must look convincing, unlike The Sand Man in Spiderman?;The long shots of the Titanic sinking (shocking blue/green screen work).I could go on but I wont.
IMHO,as far as SFX are concerned,I’d go for quality over quantity everytime, and computer CGI still has a long way to go to convince me.

A View From the States….
Saw it myself today and I have to say I enjoyed the film. I need to go back and watch the original trilogy as it’s been so long since I’ve seen them that I forgot some of the references in the new flick. In any case, I thought the plot was a bit different from the other films, but at its core it was still a fun movie to watch, and as with all Indiana Jones movies, you should go in watching them with an understanding of what the movie is trying to be.
It’s a great, fun, adventure movie and isn’t that the point of movies? If movies were like real-life, I doubt anyone would go to the theater. All in all I’d recommend it. It was great to see Harrison Ford back in his role as Indiana Jones, and all-in-all it was just a lot of fun.
Go see it!

I must admit I agree to some degree on the “real” fake monster movies, rather than the CGI-created versions. Films like The Thing, The Howling and even the latter two Jaws movies were fun for the effects they achieved with varying degrees of success. Compare that to more recent films such as Cursed or Deep Blue Sea, and the effects are very lame in comparison.
Have a look at the effects of Raiders of the Lost Ark – a film nearly 30 years old – and compare it to some modern films. How well do they stand up then?!

We all know your lack of taste in movies mate, you don’t have to prove it:):). What was special about them? Rubbish Plots,Rubbish acting and rubbish SFX. I’ll admit that SFX tech has come a long way since then but I still feel they were produced to a budget rather than a standard. Sorry I’ll get off me soap box now.l
They’re not my style but they are fun/entertaining in a cheesy sort of way. No harm in that.
I just saw “It came from the Sea” starring Keneth Tobey (of “The Thing” and best remembered for the TV series “The Whirlybirds“).
It’s about a giant octopus that terrorizes San Francisco…real stupid fun. Even had old stock film of military aircraft (including a Phantom 1..where else will you see that?).
