South Korea and Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding which will allow two States to work together to develop the fighter generation “4 +”, reports Lenta.ru referring to Defense News.The new aircraft will be created using the technology of invisibility and its functionality will have to surpass standing on the arms of South Korea KF-16.The project, known as KF-X, plans to invest five trillion won (4.1 billion dollars).
Under the agreement, Indonesia will invest in the project aircraft, 20 percent of the total planned investment.Korea will add another 60 per cent, while the rest part of the plan to attract private and public companies, including foreign ones.In particular, negotiations are conducted with companies in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. After the start serial production of fighter aircraft, Indonesia will buy 50 of these aircraft, and South Korea – from 40 to 60 KF-X.
Under the joint program will create five prototypes of the fighter, built using the technology of invisibility, by 2020. Among them will be chosen best suits the requirements of Air Force in South Korea and Indonesia option that after the 200 test flights will go into production.
South Korea led the independent elaboration of KF-X since 2001.By some estimates, the country has only 63 percent of the technology necessary to create your own fighter. For this reason, the country intends to apply to foreign companies for the necessary technologies. KF-X project was started to build military aircraft, which according to its capabilities exceed the Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft and Eurofighter Typhoon, but will miss several opportunities for the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.
