Indonesian airlines banned from EU

A pre-emptive strike, it seems, as none fly to the EU as yet. Story from the BBC;

All Indonesian airlines including national carrier Garuda are to be banned from the European Union.

An updated blacklist of unsafe airlines also includes new firms from Angola, Bulgaria, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine.

Indonesian carriers do not currently fly to Europe so the ban serves partly as a warning to consumers not to use these airlines elsewhere in the world.

“European citizens should avoid flying with these carriers,” an EU official said. “They are really unsafe.”

The last version of the blacklist, published in March, featured 91 airlines, 74 of them from Africa, and most of the rest from Kyrgyzstan.

The new list includes all 51 carriers from Indonesia.

An existing ban on Pakistan International Airlines will also be relaxed to allow specific Boeing 747 and Airbus 310 aircraft to fly to Europe, in addition to its Boeing 777 fleet, which is already regarded as safe.

You are kidding me right???

No, the flight was dry. That was, as I said, a long time ago, & I don’t know what their current policy is. I’ve avoided flying with them ever since.

Going slightly off the main subject, i noticed the mention of the ban being relaxed on PIA. Perhaps good news as we may start seeing PIA’s B747 back at Manchester. Just my opinion

Adam

I think you may have misread my original post.
Above I was referring to the fleet that PIA operate and from an aviation enthusiasts point of view it would be good to see PIA’s B747 back at MAN (For photography/spotting purposes)
I have no intention of flying with them and to be honest share the shame views about their service 🙂

I wouldn’t think of that as good news. PIA is the worst airline I’ve ever flown with. Apart from the lack of beer .

I wouldn’t think of that as good news. PIA is the worst airline I’ve ever flown with. Apart from the lack of beer, the cabin crew were surly, & at their Colombo office something extremely annoying happened to me.

The entirely Pakistani staff pretended there was a problem with issuing my paid for in London ticket home (note that I had to collect it in Colombo because PIA insisted on doing it that way), & kept hinting at the possibility that I might have to pay more. It was all resolved at once, with no extra charge, when I turned up a few hours before my flight with a Sri Lankan friend, his well-connected uncle, & two large employees of the uncle. Odd, that.

At Katunayake I met another Englishman who’d had a similar problem booking his onward flight from Karachi to Heathrow. They were claiming the flight was full, except for some mysterious quota, & hinted at fees. He sensibly decided to ignore them & see if he could book onwards in Karachi, where it turned out the plane was half-empty. Once he had his seat, he asked about the mysterious quota. The way he described it, he encountered first bafflement, then looks of enlightenment, immediately followed by a refusal to discuss the matter any more.

I’ll never fly with them again. It may have been 20 years ago, but so what. Even Lloyd Aero Boliviano has never tried anything like that with me.
