RE: INDONESIAN MARINES-IMAGES.

Kor marinir used 2 types of armoured vehicles as their main light tank-most of it PT 76 armed with a more modern Belgium Cockerill MKII 90mm gun-and the recently bought AMX PAC90.
Both tanks are fully amphibious and could deliver a significant fire support for their BTP(Battalion Tim Pendarat).
The AMX were painted with Java island to suggest it could have been based at Cijantung or the major naval base there.
They received 25 BMP 2E from CIS and not directly from Russia.Half of the fleet now are deploy in Acheh region protecting US oil company facilities. In a way the marines were paid to guard the oil plants.

Can I help?

>1) Since when has Indonesia operated the BMP-2?

Since 1998 as far as I can gather. Only 11 delivered in 1998, but I beleive there was a recent order placed for more.

>2) What type of cehicle is the first pic…with the painting

>I can’t place it.

AMX-10 PAC 90, with the Giat 90mm turret I believe. An APC becomes a light tank!

I hope this helps.

Regards, Glenn.

RE: INDONESIAN MARINES-IMAGES.

Tomel, love the pic’s. The region surrounding Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore etc. has always been of interest to me.
Two questions though, I hope you can answer them:

1) Since when has Indonesia operated the BMP-2?
2) What type of cehicle is the first pic…with the painting of the island on its hull? It looks like a French type, but I can’t place it.
