There may also be two fitted – one for the vertical direction and one for the horizontal – to account for the different rapid decelerations experienced in a crash.

You can see one in this pic. It would have ben fitted to many aircraft types but not necessarily all of them!

Hi

In the Stirling it was fitted on the wall where the Bomb Aimer was. It could be used for a number of things – mainly to initiate fire extinguishers as you could assume that the aircraft would have crashed if it activated.
