Inflight announcements

Last time I was on a flight, I was thinking whether or not the flight crew make there own announcements up over the PA system. I Believe I saw a stewardess reading it out of a book (But I couldn’t be certain). Can anybody shed any light on this as I have been wondering about this for ages? Thankx

There was a Captain at Aurigny that would try to put you off while you were making your PA’s by putting a ‘mother-in-law style’ porn mag in front of you. Quite apt really as he was a right tit.

LMOA !! 😉

On a PIA flight (when they used to serve alcohol), the purser told one of the stewardesses that the passenger in 13A had asked for creme de menthe (I guess pronounced “krem-de-maun”). On the way down with the drink, she forgets the seat number and decides to just call out “krem-de-maun, krem-de-maun”. Interestingly, in Punjabi, “krem-de-maun” sounds very similar to “Karim di maan” or Karim’s mom. Imagine our fair lady’s surprise as one elderly, and not-at-all-the-lush lady raises her hand and replies, “Over here… I’m Karim di maan”….

Heard on Singapore Airlines:
“Ladies and gentlemen, in a short while we will be serving you some snakes…. *whispers in the background* I mean, some snacks…”

On the ATR, we would reach over and dump the seat, on which the PA speaker was sitting, right to the floor with a loud BANG. Then listen with a grim satisfaction to the noises made on the PA :diablo:

Every airline issues the Number 1 (or Purser) with a PA book Tom. Some airlines allow you to ad-lib a little with your PA’s, some Number 1’s ad-lib whether they’re allowed to or not. Some Number 1’s get the Number 2 (or second in charge senior crew member) to their PA’s because they can’t be bothered themselves!

Generally, all announcements are as per the Cabin Crew manual, the only exception is the Duty Free PA’s where the crew can make them up so as to push certain items for sale that will make them more money.

Some aircraft have pre-recorded PA’s where there are only perhaps 1 or 2 crew members and both are required to perform the safety demonstration, therefore they do it to tape. The Embraer ERJ145’s and 135’s both are pre-recorded for instance.

Hope that helps? 🙂
