I’m looking for a serial number for the Spitfire XIV flown by Geoff Northcott in the last days of WW2 when he commanded 126 wing. There’s plenty of info on his Low back XIV but all I have on his high back is this photo. I’m building a model of it at the moment and would Like to find the serial number at least.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ben.

cheers, Northcott flew several marks so could be any i suppose, likely they did a similar thing with this one too as i ended up putting the JEFF over the serial anyway.

Nice looking model!
The only photo I’ve found is on p132 of “Spitfire – The Canadians Vol 2” by Robert Bracken. This shows most of the starboard fuselage side, back to just bhind the ‘J’ of JEFF. It’s not the clearest photo, but what it suggests to me is that the Dark Green was painted fresh, so that it provides a ground for the name – i.e. it comes further forward than usual, and that the serial is completely obscured.
Second thoughts: Actually, although the photo is captioned as a Mark XIV, I’m not sure it isn’t actually a Merlin-engined variant, so not the aircraft you’ve modelled anyway. It also has a prominent circular rear-view mirror mountd on the windscreen.
Third thoughts. It is as I initially described, as on closer inspection the closer photo matches the one you posted at the top of this thread. On the starboard side, you can’t see the serial and the rear Dark Green patch is fresher and bigger than usual.
